Description
The Road Once Taken: An odyssey from the banks of the Miramichi, New Brunswick to the mountains of Kathmandu, Nepal.
On a whim, a half century ago, Mary and her then partner, Padraig abandoned their more conventional Canadian lives, to join other adventurers in the early 1970s, to travel overland from Amsterdam to Kathmandu in a VW camper van, having left from Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada.
In the Road Once Taken, Mary shares a kaleidoscope of experiences including, getting married on a Greek island, surviving serious illness in Afghanistan, Padraig’s hospital stay in India, spending six months in an Indian village, and being detained for four days at an Iranian clinic while border guards searched their van for contraband drugs.
As you take this journey with these two adventurers, memories of your youthful travels may be triggered, or it may awaken recollections of this treasured period in the world, when innocence prevailed in the 1960s and 70s for youth, who created the Hippie Trail!
